Position Overview
The role is primarily responsible for coaching line organization staff on the effective use of safety systems to facilitate safe operations. The incumbent will identify opportunities to improve knowledge and skill, implement recommendations, and conduct training throughout multiple locations.
Responsibilities- Identify opportunities to improve line organization knowledge and safety systems and implement approved recommendations.
- Assist with monthly trainings, rotating to a different location each month.
- Communicate with Facility Managers and Group Managers; conduct field observations and coaching sessions.
- Report progress or issues to applicable parties, such as General Manager and Safety Manager.
- Attend pre‑shift meetings and engage management and hourly personnel during site visits.
- Conduct audits/site visits for each assigned area/location, prepare site visit reports using detailed checklists, and provide findings to the Safety Manager.
- Visit medical facilities as needed with the facility manager.
- Attend and participate in operation planning/training sessions, researching, recommending, and presenting options for safety‑related impacts.
- Conduct new employee orientation or assist with orientation, including monthly, pre‑shift, contractor training, and updating safety management system software.
- Follow up on accidents, injuries, near‑misses, and incidents to verify completion, root‑cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
- Assist other divisions with changes to operations, new work processes, or products where applicable.
- May assist the Industrial Hygienist or conduct industrial hygiene testing at assigned locations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education:
Degree in Safety or equivalent education and training. Preferred:
Degree in Safety. - Experience:
1 year’s safety experience, including people management and training. Preferred: 3 years’ safety experience.
- Required:
Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company auto insurance requirements. - Preferred: ASP or GSP certification, or working toward one of these certifications from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.
- Working knowledge of auditing, hazard identification, unsafe conditions or practices.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Good presentation and communication skills; ability to interact with all levels of personnel.
- Excellent problem‑solving, coaching, mentoring, and team‑building skills.
Light work. Ability to exert forces up to 20 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently. Ability to climb stairs and ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, stand or sit constantly or continuously. Requires close visual acuity for activities such as preparing data, transcribing, and operating measurement devices. Frequent travel required; up to 85%, including overnight travel.
