Summary

Performs routine laboratory analysis of pressurized petroleum crude oil and natural gas in a PVT laboratory environment. Conducts all aspects of PVT lab work under close supervision, including sample QC, pressurized transfers, saturation pressure measurements, flash separations, data reporting, and assists co‑workers.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform all aspects of PVT studies such as recombination, PV relations, differential liberations, constant volume depletions, viscosity measurement, and other related tests.
  • Use basic hand tools safely to make connections to valves and laboratory equipment; work safely with pressurized petroleum reservoir fluids.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Complete laboratory raw data sheets, perform basic data calculations, and enter accurate data into the laboratory information management system.
  • Read and understand all analysis and safety standards in English, including ASTM, UOP, IP, and other analytical standards and procedures used in the laboratory.
  • Assist senior laboratory personnel in setting up, adjusting, and operating laboratory equipment for which the technician has been trained and verified to operate correctly.
  • Perform equipment maintenance, calibration, and repair without assistance.
  • Assist or perform basic analytical tests from well‑defined standards and procedures as assigned by the Laboratory Manager.
  • Exercise procedural, safety, and quality requirements specified in Core Laboratories Procedural and Safety and Environmental Manuals, and company policies.
  • Attend training and pass appropriate examinations in petroleum, chemical, and gas analysis, including Right‑to‑Know training, hazardous materials disposal, and other safety and compliance training required by applicable regulations.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Two years of related experience and/or training preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced and dynamic environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Physical Demands

Laboratory technicians must meet the following physical qualifications: pass the drug and alcohol test specified for safety‑sensitive employees; work in the presence of odors typical of petroleum or petrochemicals within OSHA‑designated permissible exposure limits; regularly stand, use hands to handle objects and controls, talk or hear, and test or smell; frequently walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms; occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl;

regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds; keep close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Employees may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Personal protective equipment and engineering controls are provided. The noise level is usually moderate. Smoking and consuming food or drinks are not permitted in the laboratories.
