The Weindel Lab, based in the Department of Microbiology focuses on immunology of the periphery and central nervous system (CNS), studying how genetic variants impacting mitochondrial function predispose individuals to neurodegenerative disease and susceptibility to infection. The lab is currently seeking a Laboratory Research Technician (LRT) who will, under general supervision, perform a variety of routine and specialized laboratory tasks including preparing samples and specimens, performing straightforward experimental procedures (cell culture, cloning, PCR, western blot, microscopy, flow cytometry, buffer preparation, etc.),
working with mice, and maintaining stocks of laboratory reagents and equipment. In addition to working on the bench, the LRT will assist with data analysis and generating graphs and figures. This work will require teamwork and coordination with other lab members, maintenance of accurate and timely records of experimental procedures and results and maintaining supply inventories for the laboratory.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Familiarity with the principles of biology (preferably microbiology & immunology).
- Proficient research experiment skills and techniques.
- Proficient laboratory record keeping and maintenance skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications.
- Willingness to work in solo and team environments and multitask during the workday.
Education and/or Experience
- High School Diploma/Equivalent and 6 years’ laboratory research experience.
- Master’s Degree in a Biological or Chemical Science.
- Experience in rodent handling and tissue processing.
- Experience in laboratory techniques such as molecular biology, cloning, cell culture, ELISA and flow cytometry are desirable.
- Experience in aseptic techniques and culture and maintenance of microbial stocks.
- Experience in statistical analysis and/or big data management.
This position is classified as "non-exempt, hourly" and is assigned to pay grade 23.
