Intern, Invertebrate Pest Biology

Summary :

TheIPBinternwillassistwith our laboratory and greenhousestudiesrelated to the development ofnovelbiopesticidesto controla wide variety ofagriculturalpest species. The Intern willassistin preparing materials for bioassays,establishingandmaintaininginsectcoloniesandcleaning thelab and greenhouse. The Intern will also support other lab and greenhouse activities as required.

• Assist Scientists in the setting up and execution of experiments. These duties can range fromearly-stagescreening of potential products to routine Quality Control testing.

• Assistin the maintenance of multipleinsectsspeciesthroughdiet preparation, collection and processing of eggs, creation andrepair of insect cages, and routine monitoring.

• Prepare materials needed for bioassays andassistin setting up various bioassays(in vitro and in planta) to evaluateinsecticidalcandidatesand deepen understanding of established products.
  
  Recorddata and results inan organized fashion.

• Keepcleanthe laboratory and thegreenhouse(cleanglassware, growing containers, benches and floorsasneeded).

• Other duties as assigned.

Schedule will beestablishedwith supervisor upon hiring.

• Currently working towards aBachelor'sdegree inbiological sciences. Preferan emphasisinentomology,nematologyorplant pathology.

• Hands-on lab and greenhouse experience

• A professionalandpositive attitude.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Good time management,organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task

• Commitment to workatleast 10-15 hours per week during the schoolyear.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,and Power Point).

• Ability tolift upto 30 lbs.with help or independently occasionally.
