Research Scientist

A Research Scientist I in the McLachlan Laboratory in the Department of Immunology & Microbiology is available immediately to conduct research projects on defining immunological mechanisms of novel therapies to prevent infection across a variety of pathogen models supported by a federal contract. Research Scientists are individuals holding a Ph.D or equivalent terminal degree who play a major role in enabling research programs through collaborative and collegial interactions with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and staff.

A research scientist may apply his/her effort entirely to research, or a combination of research, training, and lab managerial activities. The rank of the research scientist is a staff appointment.

• Technical skills and competencies to conduct quantifiable, meaningful research
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to interact with individuals of diverse backgrounds at all levels internal and external to the organization
• Ability to work collaboratively as a positive, contributing member of a team
• Ability to utilize various standardized word processing, spreadsheet preparation, and presentation software
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
• Ability to prioritize work, performing assignments with minimal supervision

REQUIRED

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Terminal Degree (Ph.D. /M.D. /D.V.M., etc.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Previous postdoctoral experience preferred
• Experience in rodent handling and tissue processing highly preferred.
• Experience in laboratory techniques such as cell culture, ELISA, flow cytometry, molecular biology, or formulation chemistry desirable.
• Experience in aseptic techniques and culture.
• Experience in statistical analysis and/or data management.
• Experience in overseeing large projects and managing budgets.
• Experience in generating and implementing SOPs for laboratory assays.
