Job OverviewThis position is responsible for promoting and selling industrial, medical, and specialty gases. The candidate must also be able to sell a complete line of welding, industrial and safety hard goods. Outside sales representatives should utilize all sales and marketing tools available to expand sales at existing customer accounts and develop relationships with new customers. Representatives are responsible for identifying customers specific needs and recommending the best total solutions for that customer.
They grow existing accounts, bring new customers into the Gas and Supply group, and support accounts receivable collection efforts.
- High School Diploma
- Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree or Two Year Technical Degree
- Valid Driver’s License
- Outside sales experience with industrial or welding supply distributorship preferred.
- Knowledge of personal computers and associated business software (Microsoft Word and Excel preferred)
- Knowledge of welding equipment, tools, safety supplies and equipment, and industrial equipment
- Ability to create customer quotes and process customer orders
- Ability to maintain solid, long-term business relationships with customers
- Efficiency in problem solving and an effective communicator
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work quickly and accurately against deadlines
- Ability to work as a team with local workers as well as team members from other regions
- Scheduling appointments and visiting existing customers to review product needs and determine other opportunities
- Providing product quotes as required
- Organizing and attending joint sales calls with vendors
- Opening new accounts
- Continuously updating customers on product changes and modifications
- Providing solutions to customers’ problems
- Attending trade shows and conferences (if applicable)
- Liaising between customers and the company for up-to-date status of service, pricing and new product release launches
- Preparing reports for marketing and sales and keeping expense accounts
- Keeping up to date on new products, services, procedures and tools by attending additional training and departmental meetings
- Other duties as assigned by Sales Manager and/or local Branch Manager
The associate usually works in an office environment with no extreme temperatures or exposure to other adverse conditions.
Physical DemandsThe associate is regularly required to talk to and hear customers, sit while operating a computer, stand while servicing a customer, walk while demonstrating a product, use hands and fingers, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, and color vision.
Training RequiredNew Hire Orientation including Benefits, Safety, Personnel Policies and Procedures, as well as Departmental Training.
Work HoursFull time, Monday‑Friday, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.
