Primary FunctionYou would be responsible for the protection of the client in a high‑threat location, performing protection operations by convoy, ground movements, or aerial platforms. Additionally, you may be assigned to a Quick Reaction Force (QRF) team, responding to potential situations as required. This position supports Department of State Worldwide Protective Services III (WPS III) Task Orders in austere environments.
Duties and Responsibilities- Perform day‑to‑day personal protective security functions.
- Drive the lead vehicle, principal’s vehicle, follow vehicle, and/or act as a response agent as required during motorcade or similar operations.
- Carry and operate weapons as specified in daily post and detail orders, or upon orders from the USC or SL.
- Participate in advance security preparations.
- Man the security post at the principal’s residence, the command post, or other static posts as required.
- Serve as a member of a QRF as assigned.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must possess a minimum of three (3) years of applicable experience.
- A minimum of one (1) year of this experience must include experience in protective security assignments.
- Experience may be gained in the employ of any national, state, provincial, local, or commercial entities providing armed protective services.
- Must have a valid U.S. Driver’s License.
- Must have a valid U.S. Passport with no less than 6 months remaining before expiration.
- Shall be proficient in the ability to speak, write, and communicate in English.
- Applicants must pass the pre‑employment Physical Readiness Test (PRT) in order to advance in the application process for the position.
- Attend and successfully complete the DOS Protective Security Specialist Basic and Quick Reaction Force training course. If already completed and/or served on a DOS TO within the last 3 years, must pass a weapon and PRT requalification course on TO.
- Qualify with the Glock‑19, M4 or MK18 (as specified by the designated TO), M240, and M249.
- Complete the WPS III PRT.
- Must be approved for a Department of State Medical Clearance.
- Must be able to walk, squat, crawl, run, quickly enter/exit vehicles, maneuver around obstacles, carry heavy equipment and personnel, and operate mission‑essential issued equipment requiring dexterity.
- Must be able to operate and/or travel in vehicles on improved and unimproved roadways, as well as off‑road.
- Must be able to carry and operate firearms.
- Must maintain physical fitness readiness that includes medium and/or long‑distance running, bench presses, agility runs, push‑ups, sit‑ups, and stretching.
- Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods with minimal breaks.
- Must possess no medical or physical impediments to traveling overseas to and within countries considered dangerous or unhealthy. Must be able to travel long distances in airplanes, helicopters, and road vehicles.
