Responsibilities include intake interviews, searching, transporting, restraining, escorting detainees, conducting institutional security patrols, and reporting during storms and other emergencies. The role requires shift work, high tolerance to stress, and a commercial driver's license during the probationary period.
responsibilities- supervise juvenile offenders in a highly structured environment.
- conduct intake interviews, searches, and transport detainees to required facilities.
- perform restraining and escorting duties with a focus on safety and security.
- conduct institutional security patrols and checks.
- report duty during storms, emergencies, and other critical situations.
- maintain shift work schedule and respond to shift change requests.
- minimum age of 21 years.
- high school diploma or ged equivalent.
- at least 18 months of paid, full‑time experience in at least one of the following areas:
- correctional or detention facility
- youth mentoring program
- residential group home
- mental health or substance abuse treatment center
- school floor monitor or resource officer
- probation or parole officer
- teacher or paraprofessional in alternative education
- security guard (private or public)
- law enforcement officer
- social service position involving case work, victim advocacy, family engagement, trauma recovery, child abuse investigation, or court liaison
- military position with major responsibilities in counseling, social work, human services, teaching, military police, or security
- volunteer or internship experience with a recognized agency in juvenile detention is acceptable at the rate of 40 hours of experience per week of work.
- commercial driver's license required during the probationary period.
- hearing that chauffer's license may be required for human services department employees during probation.
- one year probationary period with required urinalysis and psychological/psychiatric evaluation.
- shift differential premium available for 3 pm–11 pm and 11 pm–7 am shifts.
