POSITION SUMMARY

The Fire Protection Systems Specialist / Qualifier in Training is a high-impact technical role designed for an experienced fire protection professional who has long-term career ambitions of becoming a licensed Qualifier with the Louisiana Office of the State Fire Marshal.

This position provides hands-on technical responsibility today, paired with structured mentorship, financial support, and guided preparation toward NICET certification , State Fire Marshal-approved training, and required examinations. The individual will work closely with senior leadership and the company’s current Qualifier(s) to develop the expertise and credentials necessary to assume future licensing and compliance responsibilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical and Design Responsibilities

• Prepare and review CAD drawings for fire alarm and life safety systems in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
• Apply strong working knowledge of electrical systems related to fire protection and life safety installations.
• Support system design, layout, and documentation for fire alarm and life safety projects.
• Assist with troubleshooting, system modifications, and code-driven design changes.

Life Safety and Compliance Exposure

• Develop in-depth familiarity with NFPA codes, Louisiana Fire Code, and State Fire Marshal requirements.
• Participate in inspections, testing, and compliance reviews alongside licensed Qualifiers.
• Assist with documentation and recordkeeping required for regulatory compliance.
• Learn the administrative and legal responsibilities associated with being alicensed Qualifier.
• Work under the mentorship of licensed Qualifier(s) to build qualifying experience hours.
• Prepare for and complete NICET certification(s) as required for licensure.
• Complete all State Fire Marshal–approved training and examinations with company support.
• Progress toward eligibility to serve as a future full-time Qualifier for the company.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in fire protection, electrical, or life safety systems.
• Demonstrated experience using CAD software for system design and documentation.

Technical Knowledge

• Solid understanding of electrical principles related to fire alarm and life safety systems.
• Working knowledge of life safety system components, layouts, and installation practices.
• Clear interest in pursuing a long-term career path toward becoming a Louisiana State Fire Marshal Qualifier.
• Willingness to commit to ongoing education, testing, and certification requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Prior fire alarm or life safety system design experience.
• Familiarity with NFPA 72 and related standards.
• Previous exposure to NICET certification processes.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
