Location: Iowa

We are seeking a highly organized and experienced Shop Manager to oversee our team of diesel mechanics and manage all aspects of inventory control within our maintenance facility. This role is responsible for ensuring timely, safe, and efficient repair of diesel equipment and vehicles, while maintaining accurate inventory of parts, tools, and supplies.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be capable of regular and predictable attendance
    • Able to work overtime and weekends as needed
    • Able to work holidays as needed
  • Supervise a team of diesel mechanics
  • Maintain accurate inventory records
  • Monitor stock levels and reorder parts as needed to avoid service delays
  • Conduct inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies
  • Enforce safety protocols and OSHA regulations for the shop
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements
  • Advanced analytical and repair skills in vehicle maintenance
  • Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and systems
  • Knowledge of hydraulics
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical problems
  • Identify and determine parts required for repair
  • Specialize in repairing and troubleshooting of major components such as engine, transmissions, and differentials, to include replacing complete assemblies, turbochargers, and fuel system components
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition
  • Maintain work area appearance and safety
  • Performs other duties as needed and/or assigned


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent communication skills and mechanical aptitude
  • 5 years experience in diesel repair with at least 2 years in a supervisory/management role
  • Certification from a diesel mechanic trade school
  • Valid driver’s license or CDL (or ability to obtain one)
  • ASE Certified
  • Ability to maintain a culture committed to teamwork, support, quality, and dedication
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
