Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Crane Operator who is capable of working independently and is available to work six days a week. The ideal candidate will operate a 35-ton Electric Crane to offload materials from vessels and assist in guiding material movement on the ground. The role requires proficiency in rigging materials and equipment, as well as coordinating with crane operators and forklift drivers using hand signals and communication tools.
Responsibilities- Operate a 35-ton Electric Crane to offload materials from vessels.
- Guide and assist in the movement and positioning of materials onto ships or around the yard.
- Convey instructions to crane operators and forklift drivers using hand signals, loudspeakers, or telephones.
- Locate, load, and unload materials and equipment on and off ships and within the yard.
- Test and install rigging equipment such as cargo booms, elevators, and boat davits.
- Control the movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces.
- Select and utilize cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, braces, and cushions based on load specifications.
- Set up and dismantle tools and equipment at job sites.
- Handle winches, grip hoists, pulleys, cables, ropes, mooring lines, and other equipment.
- Utilize multi-point suspension techniques to maneuver suspended loads over, under, or around obstacles.
- Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
- Direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety.
- 4+ years of crane operation experience, preferably in a shipyard or shipping environment.
- MUST HAVE Twic card and crane certifications.
- Knowledgeable in crane rigging and proficient in crane signal/hook tendering.
- Ability to work 5-6 days a week consistently without reliability issues.
- Competent in using worksite signals and understanding crane operations and limitations.
- Experience with overhauls, valves, blueprint reading, machining, marine hydraulics, shipyard repair, and crane operation.
- Familiarity with operating loaders, excavators, industrial forklifts, skid steers, and water trucks.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Orleans, LA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
