Location: New Orleans

Summary of Responsibilities: The Demolition Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment safely and efficiently to perform demolition activities. This includes following site‑specific demolition plans, managing hazards, sorting and handling materials, and maintaining equipment. The Operator plays a key role in ensuring that projects are executed safely, on schedule, and in compliance with Durr Heavy Construction standards, OSHA regulations, and all applicable laws.

Take Charge DEMOLITION OPERATOR
  • Operates excavators, skid steers, and other demolition equipment with precision and safety
  • Executes demolition plans in the proper sequence to maintain structural stability
  • Identifies, manages, and mitigates hazards, including asbestos, lead paint, unstable structures, and underground utilities
  • Safely loads trucks, sorts debris for recycling, salvage, or disposal per local and federal regulations
  • Performs basic equipment maintenance: pre-use inspections, fluid checks, lubrication, and minor adjustments
  • Maintains a clean and organized job site to ensure safe and efficient operations
  • Demonstrates leadership by mentoring crew members and setting high standards for safety and quality
Maintains equipment and tools to ensure long-lasting use
  • Performs preventative maintenance such as general equipment cleaning, checking fluid levels, lubrication, maintaining tire pressure, and changing implements or attachments
  • Maintains clean equipment, removing trash, debris, and other material in or on equipment daily

    Performs equipment inspections daily and properly completes equipment inspection reports
  • Performs other jobsite cleanup duties as assigned by supervisor, specifically cleanup and organization that is required to be completed with the use of heavy equipment
SAFETY
  • Complies with all safety requirements, including Durr, OSHA, and other applicable safety standards to minimize the risk of injury, property damage, or loss of life
  • Follows proper protocols and instructions to ensure the safe operation of equipment, including the use of verbal communication, hand signals, spotters, and flaggers
  • Always wears approved safety equipment (PPE), including hardhat, work boots, safety glasses, and a secured seat belt when operating equipment
  • Observes and examines colored flags and ground markings indicating the location of underground utilities and structures, identifying potential hazards and ensuring that they are properly marked and secured
  • Be actively engaged in your project
  • Be a mentor – educate and provide guidance for those under your supervision
  • Be actively engaged in all safety meetings
  • Do the little things right… Set the tone for acceptable behaviors and let your crew see you do it. Hold them to the same standards. Housekeeping and organization are a great start. Your crew will execute according to your expectations – and our standards are high.
  • Recognize and identify hazards in upcoming work and proactively engage with the project manager and safety manager to mitigate any upcoming risks
  • Remove employees who refuse to work safely
  • Be knowledgeable regarding DURR’s safety requirements… it is difficult to enforce something if you do not understand it. Familiarize yourself with our Safety Manual.
  • Report all safety incidents and near misses immediately
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Expert knowledge of demolition equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of demolition techniques, structural safety, and hazard management.
  • Ability to read and follow demolition plans, drawings, and site instructions.
  • Knowledge of debris sorting, recycling, and disposal standards.
  • Ability to operate excavators, skid steers, loaders, trucks, and hand tools.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, asbestos/lead protocols, and demolition best practices.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Education And/or Experience
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience operating heavy equipment in demolition or related construction fields.
  • Valid CDL License preferred.
  • Asbestos and hazardous materials training is a plus.
