This job responds to assigned departmental maintenance needs and is responsible for the execution of repairs or replacement of affected equipment in assigned area(s). Responds to and repairs specialty systems, accelerating requests as appropriate to leader for distribution. Refers requests beyond scope of position to Facilities leader appropriately for distribution. Performs preventive maintenance, repairs, and troubleshoots the electro/mechanical systems utilizing specialized test equipment and hand/power tools.

High School diploma or equivalent - Preferred:
Trade school or company school
- Required:
2 years of experience in Commercial, Industrial or Hospital Maintenance or completion of the Ochsner Apprenticeship program - Preferred:
Healthcare experience
- Required:
Valid driver's license in the state of residence
Skills and Abilities
(KSAs)
- Experience with all hand and power tools
- Familiar with a wide range of skilled crafts including plumbing, electrical, HVAC‑R and carpentry
- Strong interpersonal skills with a can‑do attitude
- Mechanically inclined with the ability to multi‑task and work with minimal supervision
- Working knowledge of state, parish, and building codes, as well as JCAHO standards
- Self‑directed with the ability to handle mental and physical stress/pressure to complete all jobs, including emergencies
- Ability to work indoors, outdoors, and in restricted spaces for extended periods of time
- Basic knowledge of reading, writing and understanding mechanical and electrical symbol isms to interpret blueprints, schematics, specifications and mechanical drawings
- Ability to properly handle power and hand tools required to perform job duties effectively
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills with the ability to apply effective judgment when performing job duties
- Availability to work on‑call for emergencies and extended hours
- Perform general inspections, troubleshooting and repairs of minor electrical, mechanical, and plumbing items within the hospital or clinic setting (e.g., unclogging plumbing lines, replacing light bulbs, replacing ceiling tiles, repairing leaking faucets, and painting touch‑up)
- Follow up on completed assignments ensuring equipment is working appropriately
- Respond to and repair specialty systems such as nurse call, fire alarm, television, medical gas and ceiling systems
- Complete preventive maintenance inspections according to scheduled checkpoints and maintain documentation appropriately
- Assist with any maintenance on associated equipment within assigned area(s)
- Perform other related duties as required, including assisting other Hospital and Clinic departments with daily maintenance and support services, and assisting with repairs and upkeep of facility structures and building systems
- Remain onsite during severe weather emergencies or disasters as assigned
Heavy Work – Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Regular walking or standing may be required; lifting up to 100 pounds may occasionally be necessary.
Normal routine involves potential exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue; workers may enter isolation rooms and face communicable disease risks.
