Job Overview
Nova Space Solutions (NSS) is seeking a General Maintenance Worker to support NASA operations. This position performs a variety of maintenance, repair, and construction-related tasks, including carpentry, painting, glazing, roofing, concrete work, and general facility repairs.
ResponsibilitiesEssential
Job Duties:
- Perform rough and finish carpentry, painting, glazing, roofing, and concrete repair activities
- Operate construction and demolition equipment, including jackhammers, star drills, power tools, saws, and hand tools
- Prepare surfaces for painting by scraping, sanding, filling, puttying, and applying coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment
- Mix and apply paints, coatings, concrete, mortar, plaster, and related materials
- Cut, install, repair, and replace glass in windows, doors, and skylights
- Construct, install, and repair office partitions, cabinets, benches, racks, frames, concrete forms, doors, and other facility components
- Perform minor roofing repairs, including removal of damaged materials, surface preparation, installation of roofing felt, sealants, coatings, and gravel
- Cut and drill openings through concrete, steel, walls, floors, and ceilings as required
- Prepare material lists and working sketches for construction and repair projects
- Perform all tasks incidental to general maintenance and construction work
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, operational performance, and customer service
- Perform other duties as assigned
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform general maintenance, repair, and construction activities supporting facility operations
- Support preventive maintenance and repair of buildings, structures, and facility infrastructure
- Promote safe work practices and identify opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, and customer service
- Maintain quality workmanship while meeting operational schedules and customer requirements
- Work collaboratively with maintenance personnel and other trades to complete assigned projects
- Maintain required certifications and comply with all applicable safety policies and procedures
Mandatory:
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in facilities maintenance, construction, or related building trades
- Broad knowledge of carpentry, painting, glazing, roofing, concrete finishing, and general building maintenance practices
- Experience operating construction equipment, power tools, and hand tools
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, sketches, and construction drawings
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to obtain and maintain certifications required for the position
- Valid driver's license when operation of company vehicles is required
Preferred:
- Experience supporting NASA, Federal, or government contractor environments
- Experience performing facility maintenance in industrial or mission-critical environments
- Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or work order tracking systems
- Work performed in industrial, construction, and facility environments
- Regular exposure to noise, dust, dirt, concrete debris, paint fumes, and varying weather conditions
- Frequent use of power tools, construction equipment, ladders, scaffolding, and maintenance equipment
- Ability to work outside normal schedules and adjust work hours to support peak periods and operational requirements
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, kneeling, bending, and working in awkward positions
- Ability to operate construction equipment and power tools for extended periods
- Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding and work at heights
- Ability to lift and carry materials, tools, equipment, and supplies as required
- Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing assigned duties
