The Repair Fitter will perform duties in a safe manner, including barge repairs, heating, and cutting determined from inspections. The fitter is safety‑minded, ensures compliance with safety regulations, fits and fabricates materials for barges or special projects, completes tasks within specified time, assists supervisor in training subordinates, removes and fits parts per specifications, instructs others in welding techniques and safety, repairs broken or cracked parts, preheats work pieces with hand torches, positions and clamps work pieces, assembles in jigs or fixtures, uses torches for cutting metal, and consistently understands and complies with all safety regulations.

• Perform barge repairs, heating, and cutting per inspections.
• Ensure safety compliance and promote a safety‑first culture.
• Fit and fabricate materials for barges and special projects.
• Complete tasks within specified time frames.
• Assist supervisor and/or leadman in training and directing subordinates.
• Remove and fit parts according to regulations and specifications.
• Instruct others in welding techniques and safety.
• Repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes.
• Preheat work pieces with hand torch.
• Position and clamp work pieces, assemble them in jigs or fixtures.
• Safely use torch for cutting metal.
• Understand and comply with all safety regulations.

Candidate must be a qualified fitter per VLS procedures or be able to qualify soon.
