Description

The primary purpose of the Electrical Foreman is to install and maintain electrical wiring, devices, systems, and equipment safely and adequately, while learning company processes and procedures and supervising electrical staff.

Duties and Accountabilities
  • Provide necessary tools and installation equipment in the work area prior to arrival of workers.
  • Provide installation instruction to the workers by detailed verbal explanation or detailed sketches.
  • Prepare sketches showing location of wiring and equipment or follows diagrams or blueprints insuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings and flooring.
  • Provide all materials organized to ensure ease of installation in the work area.
  • Expedites tools, equipment, and materials to ensure that the workers stay in the work area.
  • Inspect and test the installation.
  • Call for code enforcement inspections.
  • Mark-up as-built drawings daily.
  • Timekeeping.
  • Enforce safety policies and respond to incidents.
  • Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs electrical conduit using such tools as a hacksaw, pipe threader, rules and conduit benders.
  • Pulls wiring through conduit, assisted by a helper.
  • Splices wiring by stripping insulation from terminal leads with knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together and applying tape or terminal caps.
  • Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using hand tools.
  • Installs control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays and circuit breaker panels and fastens in place with screws or bolts using hand or power tools.
  • Connects power cables to equipment and installs grounding leads.
  • Tests continuity of circuits to insure electrical compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer and oscilloscope.
  • Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement.
  • Disassembles and repairs defective electrical equipment or systems.
  • Load transport and unload materials, tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains tools and equipment.
  • Be able to distinguish colors.
  • Knowledge of certain procedures such as LOTO, etc.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
  • Evaluate information using personal judgement or measurable standards.
  • Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy.
  • Perform a variety of duties which may change often.
  • Perform arithmetical operations rapidly and accurately.
  • See detail in objects or drawings as 3-dimensional objects.
  • Work at heights without fear.
Requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have completed high school or a GED equivalency test.
  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship program required with classroom work and on-the-job training is preferred.
  • Must have code knowledge.
  • Passed exams on the National Electrical Code, local and state codes and electrical theory as well as continuing education in order to meet licensure requirements.
  • Ability to learn new technology.
  • 5 years or more in documented field experience in chosen craft discipline with ability to read and interpret instructions and document, plan and perform work activities independently.
  • NCCER certifications written and/ or practical are strongly preferred.
  • Experience providing leadership, instructions and guidance to other craft workers in work crew, while working in the capacity of a journeyman.
  • OSHA 10 Hour preferred.
