Maintenance Operator, Mechanical - Rolling Mill/Finishing About the Position
The Mechanical Maintenance Operator is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and improving industrial equipment and facilities. This role combines millwright skills, welding expertise, and basic knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, plumbing, and industrial systems to ensure safe and efficient plant operations while supporting troubleshooting and process improvements in a team environment.
Main Responsibilities- Perform the essential functions of a millwright with extensive welding applications
- Perform basic maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic systems in an industrial environment.
- Perform basic plumbing and pipe fitting skills (ie. perform structural repairs to buildings, platforms, machinery, utility piping and structures at times in elevated positions).
- Perform maintenance engineering functions and repairs for all plant mechanical equipment.
- Possess basic knowledge of industrial electricity and understanding of how a PLCs’ interacts with the hydraulic systems and the operators.
- Install modifications to existing equipment as required
- Work in a team-oriented facility
- Assist in the development of solutions to operating problems and improvements to the processes as required
- Perform administrative tasks as may be assigned from time to time
Required
Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent GED or HSE
Preferred Education:
- Associates degree or certificate in mechanical or electrical field
Required Experience:
- Strong Mechanical background
- Minimum of 2 years of heavy industrial experience
Preferred Experience:
- Heavy industry mechanical experience with basic PLC/electrical understanding.
- In addition, strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Pass Stick overhead 3G welding test.
- Minimum Microsoft Office suite computer skills are required
- Position is full time, hourly, and is eligible for overtime
- Position works rotating 12-hour swing shifts to include days and nights
- No travel is expected for this position
The position requires the following vision and hearing capabilities:
- Talking person to person, on the phone, and/or in group settings.
- Hearing in person, on the phone, and/or in group settings.
- Vision at near, mid, and far range.
- Peripheral vision and depth perception.
The employee will frequently be required to:
- Stand, walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Twist at waist level, reach above shoulder level, reach at and/or below waist level.
- Use both hands for grasping, fingering, gripping and feeling textures and temperatures.
- Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
The employee will occasionally be required to:
- Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
The employee will work in the following conditions:
- Extreme hot and cold conditions.
- Wet and humid conditions.
- Amid fumes, dust, dirt, and smoke.
- In confined areas and heights/high places.
- Near moving parts of heavy machinery, equipment in motion and high voltage equipment.
- Amid mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards and industrial magnets.
- While wearing safety equipment and/or clothing for protection from hazards.
