About This Position
This position is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems on barges, ferry vessels and related facilities operated within the DOTD Ferry System. The incumbent must be self‑motivated, able to work independently or with minimal supervision, and capable of applying sound judgment to resolve unforeseen electrical and operational issues. Participation in DOTD training programs and continuing education is required to maintain technical proficiency and ensure compliance with applicable standards, including U.S. Coast Guard regulations.
Qualifications- Minimum two years of on‑job experience in the electrical trade.
- Three years of experience or training in the electrical trade.
- Install, test, repair, and maintain marine vessel electrical systems including generators, transformers, and switching equipment on state‑owned vessels in compliance with USCG regulations.
- Use electrical testing equipment such as volt meters, ammeters, and watt meters to diagnose issues, adjust circuit breakers and relays, and verify proper system operation.
- Troubleshoot electrical distribution circuits and generating systems to identify outages, malfunctions, and performance issues, performing corrective repairs as needed.
- Install, repair, and maintain marine electrical distribution cables, conduit systems, motors, and lighting, and support emergency or disaster response activities as required.

Compensation:
Electrician Specialist – $21.05 per hour.
