Position Description
Ironworkers install iron girders and columns to construct buildings and other structures. It is a physically demanding job, and workers must be comfortable with great heights. Read, study, and interpret job specifications, plans, and blueprints. Use basic math skills, including geometry and trigonometry, to make calculations for work. Can complete difficult job tasks according to job specifications with minimal or no supervision.
EssentialFunctions
- Read, study and interpret job specifications, plans, and blueprints to gain understanding of work to be done.
- Select type and size of materials needed for each job.
- Inspect work site to determine presence of obstructions which will affect structural stability.
- Perform advanced rigging and material handling skills.
- Rig, direct lifts, and stage material, parts, and equipment.
- Fit and erect structural steel members according to specifications and drawings.
- Follow all safety precautions when climbing or working from elevated heights.
- Burn and cut with oxy‑fuel torch to close part tolerance with minimal grinding cleanup.
- Weld structural steel members.
Education and Experience
- Minimum three years’ experience in Ironworking, rigging, and flagging.
- NCCER Ironworker Certification strongly desired.
- Must pass our in‑house Ironworker Assessment Test.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- Trade school program preferred but not required.
