Overview

Responsible for overseeing the day‑to‑day electrical operations at assigned location(s). Manage staff, staffing, logistics, inventory, maintenance, efficiency, quality, and customer service. Promote a positive image in local communities.

Responsibilities

Job duties vary by facility and level.

Level 4 – Beginner
  • Participate fully in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre‑shift meetings.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations; wear appropriate PPE.
  • Instruct others on proper use of required PPE.
  • Utilize hand and power tools correctly.
  • Assist with audits, inventory monitoring, maintenance needs, and housekeeping.
  • Learn and follow all safety procedures.
  • Grow knowledge of electrical theory.
  • Use electrical test equipment/meters for assigned tasks.
  • Communicate consistently with upper‑level electricians.
  • Install conduit.
Level 3 – Experienced
  • Locate and repair breakdowns quickly to minimize downtime.
  • Install, connect, test, and maintain electrical systems; add new equipment as needed.
  • Use blueprints to locate circuits, outlets, load centers, panel boards, and other equipment.
  • Install conduit and wiring.
  • Replace circuit breakers, fuses, switches, and related components.
  • Connect wires to breakers, transformers, or other components; join wires in boxes with specialized connectors.
  • Document daily tasks.
  • Connect motors to electrical power and maintain electronic controls for industrial equipment.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly preventive maintenance (PM’s).
  • Assist the shift electrician in keeping the plant running.
Level 2 – Experienced
  • Follow maintenance schedules for cleaning and lubricating equipment; record status.
  • Maintain tools and special equipment.
  • Study blueprints and schematics to determine required materials and methods.
  • Connect wires to plugs, switches, controls, light fixtures, traffic controls, appliances, motors, breaker panels, and switchboards.
  • Splice wires (strip, twist, clamp, solder, apply insulating caps).
  • Disassemble, repair, and replace defective electrical equipment.
  • Test installations for continuity and safety with test equipment.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit and boxes.
  • Install and repair telephones, light fixtures, electrical controls, motors, and appliances.
  • Pull wire through conduit.
  • Prepare requisitions and monitor inventory.
  • Complete required FGIS paperwork.
  • Install and troubleshoot electric motors.
  • Basic troubleshooting of control circuits.
  • Assist in training lower‑level electricians and other staff.
Level 1 – Experienced
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain building electrical and emergency power systems.
  • Program and maintain programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Shift work to maintain cooperative relationships with others.
  • Unplug elevator legs during maintenance.
  • Maintain instrumentation, motor control systems, PLCs, and HVAC systems.
  • Install and maintain transformers.
  • Train lower‑level electricians and staff.
Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Electrical certification preferred; experience appropriate for level required.
  • Licenses/Certifications: First Aid certification required; professional electrician certificate preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    • Basic electrical theory and practical experience.
    • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
    • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
    • Expert mechanical skills.
    • Good decision‑making and conflict‑management skills.
    • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
    • Time management, organization, and prioritization skills.
    • Ability to perform duties super‑vised at assigned location.
    • Understanding and following operating and emergency procedures.
    • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
Physical Demands
  • Heavy work: lift up to 100 lb occasionally, 50 lb frequently, 20 lb constantly.
  • Push/pull up to 50 lb frequently.
  • Climb ladders up to 120 ft. and perform work at significant heights.
  • Work in confined spaces.
  • Stand, walk, balance, crouch, stoop, bend, squat, kneel occasionally.
  • Walk on barge surfaces around deep water as applicable.
  • Communicate verbally, in person, and over two‑way radio as needed.
