Examination is announced to supplement the existing eligible list to fill two (2) current West Jefferson and three (3) current East Jefferson vacancies in the Department of Parks and Recreation as well as one (1) current East Jefferson vacancy in the Department of General Services and one (1) current West Jefferson vacancy in the Department of Jeffcap. This employment list will also be used for future East and West Jefferson vacancies in various Departments as they occur.

Under general supervision, the purpose of this position is to perform routine maintenance and repairs on buildings and equipment. Position is responsible for maintaining equipment, buildings, ordering supplies and maintaining records of materials. Employee will perform maintenance and repair work in and around assigned buildings such as plumbing, masonry, carpentry, painting, minor electrical and/or heating and ground maintenance using standard hand and electric tools.

Must perform work in a safe, efficient, and productive manner according to all safety and work rules. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or her designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.

Meets ONE of the following three options: I. Current employment and permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish and at least one year of general building or grounds maintenance experience, to include experience/training (as verified by an appointing authority) in at least one (1) of the following trades: painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or heating/air-conditioning. OR II. Substantial, paid work experience (approx.

two years) utilizing at least two (2) of the following trades: painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or heating/air-conditioning. OR III. Successful completion of trade school in a curriculum relevant to the work to be performed.

The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment.

Vacation (Annual Leave) Employees accumulate one half day of paid vacation for every two weeks worked. Leave accrual rates increase with years of service. Any unused annual leave is usually paid upon separation from Parish Employment.

Sick Leave Employees accumulate one half day of paid sick leave for every two weeks worked. Sick leave is available for personal illness, injury or medical consultations.

Holidays Nine paid official holidays are observed, plus any holidays declared by Parish Officials.

Life Insurance All regular employees receive a life insurance policy equal to one year's salary. Extra insurance may be purchased.

Medical Insurance An HMO medical insurance plan is available for employees and their dependents. Jefferson Parish pays 80% of the premium for employees and 50% of the premiums for dependents.

A Flexible Benefits Plan Employees have the opportunity to save money by paying for health insurance and optional insurance with pre-tax dollars. A Flexible Savings Account for Medical Expenses and Dependent Care is also available.

Retirement Most regular employees belong to the Parochial Employees' Retirement System instead of the Social Security System. For employees hired after January 01, 2007, a pension calculated at 3% of salary per year of service is provided upon retirement at age 67 with 7 years of service, age 62 with 10 years of service, or age 55 with 30 years of service.

Tenure Payment Employees are paid $25 per year of service in December of each year. Employees must have worked two years before the first check is paid.
