Welder/Fitter (Barge Repair)
Pay: $30.00/hour
Schedule:
Monday - Thursday: 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM Friday: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
We're looking for an experienced Welder/Fitter to join our team performing barge repair and marine fabrication. This is a hands-on role for someone who can confidently fit, fabricate, and weld structural steel with minimal supervision while working in a fast-paced shipyard environment.
What You'll Do- Fit, fabricate, and burn structural steel on barges, boats, and other marine projects.
- Perform layout work and accurately measure materials for fabrication.
- Weld in all positions using stick (SMAW) and wire (FCAW/GMAW) processes.
- Complete structural repairs and modifications on barges and marine vessels.
- Assist fitters and other team members as needed.
- Follow work instructions from lead personnel while maintaining quality workmanship.
- Maintain a safe work environment and comply with all safety procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Experience as a combination Welder/Fitter in a shipyard, marine, or heavy industrial environment.
- Ability to fit and weld with minimal supervision.
- Strong blueprint reading, layout, measuring, and fabrication skills.
- Proficiency welding structural steel using stick and wire processes.
- Ability to weld in all positions.
- AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Certification or an equivalent certification accepted for welding on inspected U.S. Coast Guard vessels.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, beneath barges, and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Reliable attendance and a strong commitment to safety.
- Lift and carry materials and tools as required.
- Work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and underneath vessels.
- Stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in physically demanding conditions throughout the shift.
