The Crew Lead
- Structured Cabling is a field leadership position responsible for coordinating and supervising voice and data infrastructure installation projects. This role oversees technicians on-site, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in compliance with company, customer, and industry quality standards.
- Lead and supervise structured cabling installation crews on large-scale projects.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and training to technicians.
- Enforce company and customer safety standards and conduct weekly safety meetings.
- Coordinate daily activities with the Project Manager and/or Project Lead to maintain productivity and stay within project budget.
- Complete all required project documentation accurately and on time, including:
- Timesheets
- Material transfers
- Work orders
- Change orders
- Tool transfers
- Other project-related paperwork
- Perform quality inspections and ensure installations meet project specifications and industry standards.
- Coordinate voice and data cross-connects, moves, adds, and changes (MAC work).
- Prepare and maintain red-lined as-built drawings.
- Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for customers and project stakeholders.
- Attend construction, facility, and project meetings as required.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical installation issues.
- Support successful project completion through effective planning, communication, and team leadership.
- Strong experience installing and supporting structured cabling systems.
- Knowledge of:
- Copper cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A)
- Fiber optic cabling
- Cable pathways and support systems
- Telecommunications rooms and data centers
- Voice and data cross-connects
- Testing, labeling, and documentation standards
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and project specifications.
- Proven leadership and crew management skills.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills with customers, team members, and project management.
A successful Crew Lead will be:
- Hands-on and technically strong in structured cabling installations.
- Experienced leading field technicians and driving project execution.
- Safety-focused and detail-oriented.
- Capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Customer-focused with strong interpersonal skills.
- Accountable for project quality, productivity, and team performance.
Min: USD $32.00/Hr.
Max: USD $34.00/Hr.
QualificationsPhysical and Mental Requirements:
- Regular attendance is mandatory
- The General Superintendent must be self-motivated, positive in approach, and convey an appropriate professional image.
- The General Superintendent must promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners.
- The General Superintendent must possess proven problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read, write and give oral presentation(s).
- The General Superintendent must also have excellent organizational skills and the ability to develop branch and job processes and best practices.
- The General Superintendent must have proven high skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
- The General Superintendent must be able to travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.
- The General Superintendent must possess the ability to learn and teach the Company and customer project management systems.
- The General Superintendent must be able to work at heights, off of a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
- Must be able to stand and walk very large job sites regularly.
- The General Superintendent must be able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements:
- Prefer a minimum of five (5) years’ experience of supervisory or managerial experience.
- The General Superintendent must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Lead Communications Technician or similar position.
- The General Superintendent must also have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in telecommunications or a related technical or construction field.
- Must be proficient with a computer and be skilled with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and MS Project).
- Must meet Company minimum driving standards.
- The General Superintendent Must have demonstrated verifiable ability to define a project, create a project scope of work, create an estimate, develop detailed associated tasks and manage these to final completion and customer turnover.
- Must be able to use the following trade Tools: punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool, Krone/3M/BIX, butt set, volt-ohmmeter, 4-pair continuity tester and 5-gang punch tool.
