The Journeyman Carpenter is responsible for performing skilled carpentry work on a variety of marine and civil construction projects, including infrastructure such as wharves, bridges, seawalls, jetties, retaining walls, and concrete formwork. This role involves working from technical drawings to construct, install, and repair timber and concrete structures, often in challenging and high-risk environments such as coastal or tidal zones. The Journeyman Carpenter must have strong technical skills, safety awareness, and the ability to work as part of a team to deliver high-quality results on time and to specification.
- Activities may include construction, fabrication, installation and dismantling form work of fixtures of metal, wood and other accessories with the ability to read and interpret instructions and document, plan, and perform work activities independently.
- Build, install, and repair timber and concrete structures, including formwork, foundations, wharves, bridges, seawalls, and retaining walls.
- Read and follow construction plans, blueprints, and specifications to ensure structures meet project requirements.
- Construct and strip forms for poured-in-place concrete using dimensional lumber, plywood, and modular systems.
- Perform carpentry work in coastal, over-water, tidal, and confined space conditions, ensuring safety and environmental compliance.
- Use hand tools, power tools, saws, drills, and pneumatic tools correctly and maintain them in working condition.
- Follow all safety procedures, including fall protection, PPE requirements, and marine construction best practices.
- Coordinate daily activities with supervisors, laborers, and other trades to meet production goals and maintain quality standards.
- Evaluate completed work for accuracy, structural integrity, and conformance to specifications, making corrections as needed.
Preference given to candidates with a minimum of 5 years of Journeyman level Carpenter experience at meets or exceeds performance expectations.
