Position SummaryThe Civil Carpenter performs skilled carpentry and civil construction work supporting underground utilities, drainage systems, waterlines, site concrete, and other civil activities on the Meta Data Center project.
This position is focused on heavy civil and infrastructure construction rather than traditional building carpentry. The Civil Carpenter will assist with pipe installation, trenching, grade and elevation control, water main taps, concrete forming and finishing, and the installation of civil structures.
Key Responsibilities Underground Utilities and Pipe Installation- Install underground piping for storm drainage, waterlines, and other civil utility systems.
- Assist with laying, aligning, joining, and securing pipe according to project plans and specifications.
- Install storm drainpipe, catch basins, inlets, manholes, headwalls, culverts, and related drainage structures.
- Perform water main taps, tie-ins, connections, and utility crossings in accordance with project and utility requirements.
- Install pipe bedding, stone, backfill, fittings, valves, restraints, and other utility components.
- Check pipe alignment, slope, invert elevations, and joint connections before back filling.
- Assist with testing, flushing, and inspecting installed piping systems as required.
- Assist with trenching and excavation activities for underground utility installation.
- Check trench depth, width, slope, bedding, and elevations using lasers, grade rods, levels, string lines, and other layout equipment.
- Read and interpret civil plans, utility drawings, details, specifications, and survey stakes.
- Establish and maintain accurate grades and elevations throughout installation.
- Coordinate with surveyors, equipment operators, pipe crews, foremen, and superintendents.
- Assist with installing and removing trench boxes, shoring systems, ladders, barricades, and other excavation safety equipment.
- Hand-dig around existing utilities and sensitive areas when required.
- Serve as a spotter for equipment operators during excavation, pipe placement, and back filling activities.
- Build, install, brace, and strip concrete forms for civil structures.
- Form and finish concrete for drainage structures, equipment pads, duct banks, foundations, headwalls, sidewalks, curbs, and other site improvements.
- Set reinforcing steel, dowels, embeds, anchor bolts, blockouts, and other concrete components.
- Assist with concrete placement, vibration, screeding, leveling, floating, edging, troweling, and final finishing.
- Verify form dimensions, elevations, alignment, and stability before concrete placement.
- Repair minor concrete defects and complete finishing work according to project quality standards.
- Clean, maintain, and properly store concrete forms, tools, and equipment.
- Perform additional civil carpentry and infrastructure work required for the Meta Data Center project.
- Construct temporary structures, access points, barricades, work platforms, ramps, and other project-related items.
- Safely use hand tools, power tools, saws, drills, compactors, pumps, and other civil construction equipment.
- Assist with material handling, rigging, signaling, and guiding pipe and materials into place.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas.
- Protect completed work from damage during ongoing construction activities.
- Complete work according to project schedules, production goals, plans, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Civil Foreman or Superintendent.
- Follow all LEMOINE safety policies, OSHA requirements, and site-specific Meta Data Center safety procedures.
- Participate in daily pre-task planning, toolbox talks, Job Hazard Analyses, and safety meetings.
- Follow excavation, trenching, fall protection, silica exposure, confined-space, and equipment safety requirements.
- Inspect tools, ladders, rigging, forms, and personal protective equipment before use.
- Identify unsafe conditions and immediately report concerns to the Foreman or Superintendent.
- Maintain awareness of equipment, underground utilities, overhead hazards, changing site conditions, and nearby workers.
