Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Ballast Regulator Operator role based in Geismar, LA. The Ballast Regulator Operator will operate ballast regulating equipment to distribute, shape, and profile track ballast according to project specifications and safety standards. Day-to-day responsibilities include inspecting equipment before use, performing basic preventive maintenance, and reporting mechanical issues to supervisors. The operator will work closely with track crews to support construction and maintenance activities, follow all railroad safety rules and company procedures, and maintain clear communication with team members and site leadership.

The role involves working outdoors in varying weather conditions, adhering to project schedules, and supporting additional track maintenance tasks as needed.

Qualifications
  • Experience operating ballast regulators or similar heavy railroad maintenance equipment, with strong equipment handling and control skills.
  • Knowledge of railroad track construction and maintenance practices, including ballast distribution, track alignment, and basic track components.
  • Commitment to safety, including understanding of railroad safety rules, PPE requirements, and safe operation in active rail environments.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for routine equipment inspections, minor adjustments, and coordination with maintenance personnel when issues arise.
  • Ability to work outdoors in physically demanding conditions, including standing, bending, lifting, and working in all weather and on irregular schedules as needed.
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills to coordinate with track crews, supervisors, and other equipment operators.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; prior experience in railroad or heavy construction environments preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; ability to pass required background checks, drug screenings, and safety training.
