Overview

The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) is committed to protecting the public by providing safe and effective individualized services to youth, who will become productive, law‑abiding citizens. We are seeking dedicated and empathetic individuals to join our team as Probation and Parole Officer‑Juvenile. This role plays a critical part in promoting public safety, reducing recidivism, and supporting the successful rehabilitation of justice‑involved youth through professional supervision, guidance, and intervention strategies.

This position is responsible for collaborating closely with judges, law enforcement agencies, and community‑based organizations to provide services and supervision for juveniles.

Experience Requirements

Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement; OR

Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply); OR

Six years of full‑time experience in any field; OR

A bachelor’s degree.

Experience Substitution

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience toward the six years of full‑time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours, which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Necessary

Special Requirements
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
  • Possession of a current Louisiana driver’s license.
  • This position may require the incumbent to handle and carry firearms.
  • Willingness and ability to complete the Corrections Juvenile Services‑Agent Curriculum.
Job Duties
  • Coordinate services, programs, and community resources for adjudicated and at‑risk youth across a multi‑parish region.
  • Complete risk and needs assessments (including SAVRY) to guide service planning and supervision levels.
  • Maintain regular contact with youth, families, and providers to monitor progress and adjust service plans.
  • Serve as secondary case manager for youth in secure care to ensure continuity of services.
  • Prepare and submit Individual Service Plans, social histories, investigations, and court‑ordered reports.
  • Schedule evaluations, gather referral documents, and coordinate placement packets for residential programs.
  • Prepare FAST forms to determine Medicaid/IV‑E eligibility and parental cost‑of‑care contributions.
  • Participate in case staffings, court reviews, and testify on youth progress and placement needs.
  • Monitor residential and community‑based programs for compliance; assist with audits.
  • Maintain case records, narrative entries, and data in the agency’s automated system.
  • At the PPO 3 level: mentor PPO 1/2 staff, assist supervisors with assignments, and serve as a lead worker.
  • Transport youth to and from placements and assist with emergency situations as needed.
  • Coordinate Interstate Compact cases and collaborate with courts and social service agencies.

Work Location: New Orleans Regional Office, New Orleans, Louisiana.

Appointment Type: Full‑time, probationary.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Probation and Parole Officer 1, 2, or 3 (Juvenile) depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.

Compensation:

  • The Probation and Parole Officer 1 Juvenile has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $1,590.40 biweekly.
