Position: SOCIAL WORKER 1, 2, OR 3
Location: Cottonport

Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections – Corrections Services, RAYMOND LABORDE CORRECTIONAL CENTER, Cottonport, LA.

Position opening; filled as a probationary appointment or promotion of a permanent classified employee.

Salary

Special Entrance Rates:
Social Worker 1: $19.88/hr;
Social Worker 2: $21.27/hr;
Social Worker 3: $22.76/hr premium pay of $2.00–$5.00/hr based on years of service.

Appointment Types
  • Detail – must serve a trial detail before permanent promotion.
  • Temporary job appointment – may be converted to probationary if a permanent position becomes available.
  • Probational appointment – may require permanent employees to accept.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current Louisiana license to practice as a Licensed Master’s Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Certified Social Worker (CSW).
  • Master’s degree in social work.
  • Permanent status requires LMSW or LCSW; CSW credential will not be accepted for granting permanent status.
Responsibilities
  • Provide social work services to offenders.
  • Conduct individual and group counseling under supervision.
  • Prepare psychosocial assessments, social summaries, and documentation in client chart.
  • Develop treatment plans and recommend intervention strategies to an interdisciplinary team.
  • Communicate findings to the treatment team and manage case notes.
  • Prepare correspondence with community agencies and serve as primary liaison with courts, schools, foster care, and legal authorities.
  • Assess level of care and intervention, including discharge, reassignment, and treatment strategy changes.
  • Attend community health programs, in‑services, continuing education, and maintain professional reading.
  • Build knowledge of correctional or community resources to recommend or refer offenders for special services.
  • Provide psychosocial case management to individuals, groups, and families when appropriate.
