Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections – Corrections Services. Rayburn Correctional Center (Angie, LA) offers a dedicated team supporting public safety, working in a correctional facility where professionalism, resilience, and teamwork are essential. This position is a Social Worker 5‑B that ensures effective Mental Health operations within a correctional environment, providing individual and group therapy in compliance with treatment plans and assisting inmates with learning skills needed for re‑entry into society.
The ideal candidate brings strong organizational skills, sound judgement, and a commitment to providing inmates the counseling required to return to society.
- Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice as a Licensed Master's Social Worker (LMSW) or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
- A master’s degree in social work followed by four years of social services experience.
- Maintain appropriate documentation in inmates’ medical records, charting and reviewing treatment provided, progress of each case, any recommendations made, and utilizing consultation as needed.
- Assess inmates to determine the potential for self‑mutilation or injury, and/or suicide; order appropriate management instructions utilizing Suicide Watches or Mental Health observations when appropriate and monitor progress while providing individual counseling.
- Interview inmates to develop a thorough bio‑psycho‑social assessment, identifying problems or needs, addressing adjustment difficulties, and determining strengths and deficits.
- Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probationary appointment if accepted.
- An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $26.95 per hour.
This position also offers premium pay: a rate between $2.00 and $5.00 an hour for each regular hour worked, based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.
