Promotion Opportunity in Research & Development

Within the development of ADAS/AD functions, AI-based end-to-end (E2E) architectures are gaining increasing importance. E2E architectures have the potential to reduce the complexity of traditional modular architectures and enable a more direct mapping of sensor data to driving commands using deep neural networks (DNN). This promotion focuses on the multifaceted challenges and innovative solution approaches for the assurance of E2E DNNs.

Your tasks will include:

• State-of-the-art analysis considering the AI security research landscape and established safety standards in automotive engineering (ISO 26262, ISO 21448, ISO/PAS 8800)
• Analysis of specific challenges in the assurance of E2E DNNs compared to traditional modular DNN architectures with regard to requirements, V&V, monitoring, and safety argumentation
• Identification of suitable points of contact for E2E safety argumentation and development of innovative solution approaches
• Regular presentation of your results in the project
• Documentation and publication of your results as part of a dissertation

The position can start in September 2026.

The supervision of the doctoral project by a university lecturer is a prerequisite. The selection of a corresponding supervisor is the responsibility of the doctoral candidate.

Qualifications:

• Completed diploma or master's degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or a related field
• Secure German and English language skills in speech and writing
• Analytical mindset and strategic working style
• Experience in the field of statistics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning is desirable
• Programming experience, e.g. in Python, Matlab, or C
• Commitment and team capability
