Fleet Maintenance Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
POSITION SUMMARY: The Maintenance Manager will lead and oversee all maintenance operations for our fleet of dump trucks, heavy-haul tractors, and equipment. This role is responsible for ensuring the safety, reliability, and cost-effective performance of all assets while developing and managing a preventative maintenance program from the ground up.
Ideal candidates will have strong diesel repair experience, leadership skills, and the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Lead and manage all maintenance activities for fleet vehicles, including dump trucks, heavy-haul trucks, and tractor units for a multiple-site operation (Ama, Baton Rouge, Vicksburg). Travel required.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve a Preventive Maintenance (PM) program from scratch
- Supervise, train, and evaluate maintenance technicians and shop personnel
- Schedule and prioritize repairs to minimize downtime and maximize equipment availability through internal resources and external vendors as needed.
- Develop short- and long-term fleet maintenance strategies
- Forecast maintenance needs based on equipment lifecycle and usage
- Create and manage the maintenance department budget
- Approve vendor invoices within authority.
- Negotiate pricing with vendors as needed
- Assist with fleet replacement planning and budgeting
- Evaluate performance and repairs vs. replacement
- Coordinate part deliveries while maintaining adequate stock inventory for commonly used PM and repair items.
- Perform and oversee diesel engine diagnostics, repairs, and troubleshooting
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, safety standards, and company policies
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and service logs
- Utilize and manage fleet maintenance software (Fleetio preferred)
- Coordinate with the operations team to align equipment readiness with job demands
- Monitor parts inventory, manage vendors, and control maintenance costs
- Perform hands-on work as needed, including tire changes and roadside repairs
- Coordinate roadside response for repairs and transport as needed
- Respond to breakdowns and emergency repair situations
- Conduct performance reviews on employees on a regularly scheduled basis
- ASE certification or equivalent diesel/mechanical certifications
- Prior supervisory role
- Five (5) years as a diesel mechanic
- Experience with DOT Inspections and Compliance regulations
- CDL preferred
- Experience with Fleetio or similar fleet maintenance software
- ASE certification or equivalent diesel/mechanical certifications
- Experience with DOT Inspections and Compliance
- Relative experience may be a substitute for educational requirements
- Constant drive to understand the root cause of issues/troubleshooting ability
- Use and familiarity with Microsoft products (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Ability to perform as a member of a high-performing team
