Job Type: Part time, Temporary

Compensation: $19.06 per hour (maximum 24 hours per week). Employees may work Saturdays as needed.

Position Summary

The Driver’s License Examiners (DLE’s) are one of the first lines of homeland security for the State of Oklahoma. This includes performing highly responsible work in conducting driver’s license interviews, examinations (visual, written, and road) and inspections to determine eligibility and qualification for driver’s licenses or state identification cards in compliance with state and federal regulations and guidelines.

Position Responsibilities
  • Interview applicants to determine the type of license or identification required; review, inspect, and verify the legality of qualifying documents; determine eligibility for and type of driver’s license or identification card.
  • Advise applicants as to reasons an application cannot be accepted and procedures to resolve disqualifying issues; provide expert testimony relating to medical disqualifications.
  • Evaluate medical, physical, or mental information provided by applicant based on state and federal standards; determine requirements for waivers or restrictions to driving privileges; advise on waiver application procedures or additional evaluation.
  • Conduct vehicle safety inspections of vehicles, buses, and commercial vehicles to be used in required tests and evaluate operators’ knowledge and ability to safely operate systems and equipment.
  • Administer vision, written, pre‑trip, and skills tests; evaluate applicant’s performance to determine knowledge and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and comply with state and federal laws; determine areas of improvement and advise the applicant.
  • Record driver’s license issuance while maintaining confidentiality and security of information in compliance with laws.
  • Assist Legal Division in gathering evidence for potential legal action on fraudulent applications.
  • Respond to inquiries from motor license agents to verify applicant identity; provide information concerning laws and procedures to law enforcement agencies and the general public; recommend changes in driver’s license laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct interviews and hearings related to driver’s license suspensions, revocations, restrictions, modifications, temporary licenses, and other issues; review accident reports and other information; render final decisions as appropriate; issue orders and complete required documents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws regarding driving privileges, physical requirements, exemptions, issuance of driver’s licenses, commercial vehicles, and licensing requirements.
  • Ability to conduct interviews, inspect and evaluate motor vehicles and equipment; operate all types of motor vehicles; administer written and performance tests; determine authenticity of identification documents; communicate effectively; use computers; type.
Education & Experience
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in any field, or
  • Four (4) years of technical clerical office work, or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preference May Be Given To Candidates Who
  • Have previous customer service experience.
  • Have familiarity with DMV processes and procedures.
  • Proficient in typing at least 50 words per minute with minimal errors.
Special Requirements
  • The schedule may vary and require flexibility, including early or late shifts, weekends, and occasional overtime.
  • Work location may vary based on agency needs.
  • Occasional travel may be required; reliable transportation may be needed for local travel.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
  • Work may involve standing up to eight hours a day and lifting 10‑50 pounds regularly.
