Executive Director of Transportation
The Executive Director of Transportation oversees all student transportation in the Jefferson Parish Schools (JPS). The Executive Director of Transportation is responsible for ensuring that students travel safely and efficiently to and from school and school-related activities. The Executive Director of Transportation directs and coordinates the Scheduling and Route Coordination teams of the Transportation Department. The position can require extended or on call work hours due to emergencies or extenuating circumstances related to safety or operational routine.
Reports To:
Chief Operations Officer
Scope of Responsibility:
- Works closely with the Chief Operations Officer to drive the mission, vision, and a set of measurable objectives for the Transportation
- Holds the Transportation Department teams accountable for meeting their objectives and conducts formal performance evaluations in accordance with the JPS evaluation schedule for central office
- Presents progress reports on each team to the Chief Operations
- Ensures that the Transportation Department is in compliance with federal statutes and regulations, state laws, Board of Elementary and Secondary Education rules and regulations, JPS policies and procedures, and relevant contractual
- Develops an efficient, cost-effective transportation schedule that brings students to and from their destinations in a timely and safe
- Establishes transportation plans for emergency
- Resolves transportation-related incidents and complaints while ensuring that all providers deliver high-quality services.
- Ensures accurate and timely communication regarding transportation news and incidents with key stakeholders, including principals, teachers, parents, and
- Ensures that all student transport vehicles are inspected on schedule, receive maintenance as needed, and meet safety
- Establishes policies and practices to ensure the safety of students and transportation personnel while students are in
- Ensures that all students who require auxiliary assistance in transport receive necessary
- Works closely with the Chief Financial Officer to prepare and administer the annual Transportation Department budget and exercises proper financial controls.
- Carries and answers JP Schools-issued iPhone before, during, and after normal work hours, as well as on weekends and holidays due to emergencies or extenuating circumstances related to safety or operational
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Operations
Skills and Qualifications
We seek detail-oriented, independent self-starters who demonstrate an unwavering commitment to raising student achievement and who have a record of high performance in challenging situations. Successful candidates will also demonstrate and/or possess:
- 5+ years of progressively increasing experience in school transportation
- Strong communication skills in multiple settings and the ability to be an engaging change agent and culture-creator that can inspire and
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to make decisions and
- Collaborative management style, with a proven track record of working with diverse individuals at all levels to drive decision-making and
- High degree of professionalism, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities, while consistently demonstrating sound judgment and disciplined
- Experience in utilizing database management programs designated by
- Master's degree
Desirable
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Administration, Urban/Regional Planning, or Transportation
- Working knowledge of computer
- Knowledge of the school system policies and
- Extensive experience in student transportation
- CPR/AED Certification
- CDL will be required within 6-12 months of employment.
Physical Involvement:
Must be able to operate office equipment. Standing, walking, sitting, reaching, bending, lifting up to 40 pounds is sometimes required. Must have ability to provide own transportation to schools, work locations, and meeting sites. Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations. Must be able to passed physical requirements to operate a bus.
