Location: Geismar

The Truck and Rail Loader is responsible for safe and efficient loading and unloading of tank trucks and rail cars with a variety of specialty chemicals. This position will be required to learn and safely operate terminal equipment and perform daily operating functions in conjunction with the loading and unloading activities.

Responsibilities
  • Control and monitor transfers of the bulk liquid fine chemicals stored and handled at the facility.
  • Physically establish connections between the facility's transfer lines for truck and rail loading and unloading.
  • Perform first level mechanical maintenance on pumps, valves, filters and loading arms.
  • Understand printed pump orders, confirm the quantity to be moved is accurate and the paperwork for customer shipments is accurate.
  • Capable of wearing a respirator with supplied air and / or other PPE at required locations while performing job duties.
  • Capable of participating in the terminal emergency response organization.
  • Perform and maintain good housekeeping practices.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of terminal operation and procedures.
  • Valid Driver's License TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credentials) for access to IMTT's terminal locations.
Skills and Abilities
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal communication in the English language.
  • Ability to make decisions in a variable environment.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions).
  • Proficient in the use of computer systems.
Hours of Work
  • Typical hours of operation are Monday through Friday.
  • This is a non-exempt, hourly position.
  • Employees are scheduled to work assigned shifts within a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • All hours worked must be accurately recorded, and overtime is paid in accordance with FLSA and company policy.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary, sometimes with little or no advance notice.
Physical and Environmental Demand

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This job operates in a professional office environment as well as the outside environment where temperatures routinely reach 95 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This would require the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, stand, or stoop, as necessary. Ability to perform climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling and moderate lifting. Must be able to work in confined spaces, over water and not be afraid of heights. Ability to wear and use a respirator and PPE.

Because the facility and adjoining facilities handle hazardous materials, the labor force must be able to evacuate quickly from any location of the facility without assistance in an emergency.
