** OVERVIEW**:
The Estimator I position supports the pre-construction team by performing entry-level drawing takeoffs via current bidding software and/or excel documentation, gathering vendor pricing, assisting with all aspects of bid documentation to assemble project estimates, attending on-site job walk and learning the fundamentals of construction estimating. This role is designed for individuals early in their construction or technical career who are developing skills under supervision from senior estimators.
** Under direct supervision, the Junior Estimator will:
**** Estimating & Takeoffs
*** Assist with basic detailed quantity takeoffs for materials, equipment, and labor using estimating software and drawings.
* Help compile bid packages and draft proposal documentation.
* Analyze plans and specifications to identify scope, materials, and trade requirements.
* Be aware of current market pricing adjustments, and historical project information.
** Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination
*** Collect quotes from equipment vendors and subcontractors.
* Help prepare bid comparison sheets for detailed review.
* Track received pricing and ensure follow-up for outstanding quotes.
** Project Support
*** Assist in reviewing addenda, project scope changes, drawing and specification clarifications.
* Assist with setting up new bid projects, update project folders as needed, filing, and documenting bid logs.
* Support the estimating team in pre-bid meetings, on-site visits, and bid-day activities.
** Learning & Development
*** Learn company estimating processes, filing and cost structure, and project delivery methods.
* Gain proficiency in construction drawings including specific drawing details, specifications definitions, identifying building systems, and trade involvement.
* Complete required internal training related to estimating, bid software and understanding file structure.
** Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
*** Basic understanding of construction concepts, drawings, and specifications (or willingness to learn).
* Strong attention to detail and ability to perform basic math and measurements.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and willingness to learn estimating software.
* Strong communication and organizational skills.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines**.
*** Team-oriented with a desire for continuous learning.
** Minimum Qualifications
*** High school diploma or GED required.
* Enrollment in or completion of a construction trade apprenticeship, construction management program, or equivalent experience preferred.
