Danone North America (NA) is looking for a Packaging Engineer for North American based Division
, located in Louisville, Colorado.
The Packaging Engineer is responsible for supporting innovation, renovation, sustainability, and productivity projects on cross‑functional teams supporting the Food Packaging Team (incl. Shakes, Kids, Yogurt, and Plant‑Based Foods).
Responsibilities- Execute innovation, renovation, sustainability, and productivity projects across all Danone NA business categories (yogurt, beverage, milk, plant‑based, baby food brands) with a focus on food brands.
- Develop primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging while keeping consumer centricity and quality top of mind.
- Support Danone Innovation process by proposing, developing, and implementing packaging options.
- Demonstrate creativity in the development of packaging systems, leveraging robust packaging processes and global best practices.
- Research and develop new packaging materials, shapes, and assemblies to support the Danone portfolio of brands and products.
- Deliver technical guidance and packaging engineering support to the business units.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, plants, co‑manufacturers and other sources of applicable technologies.
- Contribute to packaging development for projects of all sizes.
- Accountable for the creation and maintenance of the packaging specifications.
- Organize and conduct trials in an industrial environment.
- Ensure development of new technical & material concepts for packaging solutions via collaboration with internal and external experts.
- Bachelor’s degree minimum, Master’s degree in Sciences or Engineering ideal (Packaging, Mechanical, Chemical or related engineering science).
- 3+ years experience in a packaging engineering field (preferably in the food or beverage industry).
- Experience in the following packaging formats, with advanced understanding of 1‑2 of these:
- Paper‑based packaging (corrugated and compact)
- Fill‑form‑seal (FFS) single‑serve cup forming
- Flexibles (lidding, pouches, shrink labels and banderole labels)
- Rigid plastic preforms (bottles, thermoformed cups, and injection molding)
- Aluminum cans
- Experience in barrier properties of packaging materials.
- Ability to translate new business dynamics into package design.
- Experience in the use of statistical tools for problem solving.
- Experience in low acid ESL and Aseptic food packaging.
- Understanding of cold chain distribution systems.
- Lateral thinking and problem solving.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership in cross‑functional teams involving marketing, sales, purchasing and manufacturing in the development of new products.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Self‑starter, autonomous and demonstrated ability to bring new unsolicited ideas and solutions to the table.
- Ability to travel approximately 25%.
The salary range for this position is $80,000‑115,000 USD. The exact salary offered will depend on several factors, including the candidate's relevant experience, geographic location, internal equity, and market conditions.
