Job DescriptionTriages clinical calls to facilitate patient questions and concerns specific to orthopedic technician responsibilities. Assists physicians with minor office procedures, bedside/inpatient minor procedures, wound care, wound vac application, and/or operating room assistance, as applicable. Responds to orders/tasks in a timely manner, per department guidelines. Assists with or applies and removes casts and splints, including trimming and modification of casts and DME fitting for patients.
Supplies and applies soft goods and off-the-shelf braces to patients as ordered by Physicians and Advance Practice Providers. Assists with placing patients into traction and adjusts traction equipment as ordered by Physicians and Advance Practice Providers. Provides inpatient and/or outpatient services consistent with the daily duties of an orthopedic practice. Completes patient intake and rooming, including height, weight, and patient history.
Communicates information clearly and precisely to team members to ensure coverage is not affected by staffing changes. Provides patient education on cast care and DME equipment. Documents accurately, thoroughly, and timely using measurable terminology and acceptable abbreviations. Participates in practice changes resulting from performance improvement activities and supports departmental quality standards and initiatives. Manages documentation, supply ordering, and relationships with DME providers.
Other duties as assigned. Adjusts and adapts to changes in patient volume by altering working hours to assist in other centers, programs, inclusive of on-call scheduled as defined by department and as applicable.
- Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English [Required]
- Critical thinking for when to stop treatment, amend treatment, notify physician, and call emergency response [Required]
- Necessary computer skills to include Outlook and Microsoft Word [Preferred]
- High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
- Previous orthopedic technician experience [Preferred]
- N/A
- Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
- Orthopedic Technologist Certification (OTC) [Preferred]
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) [Preferred]
Physical Requirements -
Pay Range$21.81 - $34.89
