Spend your summer outdoors helping care for Louisville’s urban forest!

Join the City of Louisville as a seasonal Arborist Groundsman and play a hands-on role in keeping the arboriculture in our parks, open spaces, and medians healthy and beautiful. In this active, team-oriented position, you’ll support certified arborists and tree climbers with tree pruning, removals, and general maintenance. You’ll manage essential ground-level operations including equipment use, debris removal, site safety, and logistical support to ensure projects are completed safely and efficiently.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys physical outdoor work, values teamwork, and takes pride in contributing to the appearance and safety of their community.

The season runs April 20 through October 16
, with a consistent schedule of Monday
- Thursday, 6:00am to 4:30pm.
We’re looking for candidates who can commit to working through the full season.

Responsibilities
  • Assist climbers with rigging operations and branch lowering during tree removals and pruning projects.
  • Clear branches, logs, and debris; maintain clean and organized job sites.
  • Operate and maintain chainsaws, wood chippers, stump grinders, blowers, and related equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance and safety inspections on small engines and tools.
  • Set up cones, signage, and barriers for traffic and pedestrian control.
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Perform pruning, trimming, mulching, and fertilizing tasks as directed.
  • Load and unload equipment, tools, and materials.
  • Assist with brush hauling and debris disposal.
  • Clean, store, and secure tools and machinery at the end of each shift.
  • Support general tree and landscape maintenance activities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • All candidates must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license and an acceptable driving record for continued employment.
  • Knowledge of and willingness to apply work safety rules and procedures.
  • Ability and experience in the safe operation of tools, equipment and vehicles.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, citizens, and contractors.

Physical Requirements of the Job

The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk; use fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and read and speak and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work

Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near parks maintenance equipment and moving mechanical parts. The work is performed in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to equipment vibration, fumes, airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock, and sharp objects.

The noise level in the work environment is at times loud.
