Our client is seeking an Assistant Controller for an excellent position based in the Louisville, KY area. This role will report to the Corporate Controller, responsible for accounting for the business, building out the team further, and process improvement.
- Lead, train, and mentor accounting staff by assigning work, providing direction, and ensuring all tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Oversee the preparation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with applicable standards.
- Compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and company policies across all accounting activities.
- Coordinate and support both internal and external financial audits.
- Contribute to the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecasting to guide financial planning.
- Direct the execution of daily accounting functions, including the general ledger, inventory, A/P, A/R, tax, and fixed assets.
- Deliver financial analysis and insights to help leadership make data-driven business decisions.
- Perform thorough monthly reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts.
- Manage sales and use tax reconciliations and complete the annual property tax return.
- Propose and implement process improvements and system enhancements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including working with percentage of completion accounting methods and sales and use tax processes.
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting standards, and integrated accounting systems is required.
- Expertise with accounting software platforms, including strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical capabilities, organizational skills, and clear communication skills.
- Ability to operate independently while also contributing effectively within a team setting.
- High level of attention to detail combined with robust problem-solving aptitude.
- Prior experience with ERP system implementations or upgrade projects a plus.
- Managing multi-state sales and use tax compliance is preferred. Understanding of broader tax compliance obligations and regulatory reporting requirements is a plus.
