The State Group is seeking a Controller to work at our Louisville, Kentucky location. This position reports directly to the Regional Controller.

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of demonstrated experience as a controller, specifically within the construction industry. This opportunity will provide immediate once-in-a-lifetime career learning and growth, as well as future promotional opportunities within The State Group.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Prepare monthly financial statements; review and submit quarterly tax returns and initiate and renew periodic state license registrations.
• Create and review General Ledger entries, monitor accounts receivable, and manage vendor payments.
• Prepare work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and coordinate with Operations during month-end close.
• Coordinate the month-end close process, ensuring reported results comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal controls and policies.
• Facilitate the completion of periodic audit requests.
• Oversee the training, development, and performance of direct reports.
• Manage accurate and compliant payroll processing, including related activities and reports.
• Develop financial forecasts, analyze variances, and performance for management.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU NEED TO JOIN OUR TEAM

• 3+ years of relevant financial experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
• College diploma or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• Experience in construction or project-based accounting preferred.
• Advanced proficiency with Excel and financial reporting systems.
• Experience with all or some of the following systems preferred:
  Sage 300, Foundation, Vista, Accu Build.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities accurately.
• CPA (Certified Public Accountant- US) preferred.
• Willingness and ability to work extended or flexible hours during month-end close, budgeting, and peak reporting periods.
