We are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to lead lease accounting and fixed asset accounting across our multi-brand restaurant portfolio of approximately 180 locations.
In this role, you will manage lease accounting under ASC 842, maintain fixed asset records, coordinate rent payments, prepare journal entries and account reconciliations, and support the monthly close process. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and strong internal controls while building expertise in two critical accounting functions. This position offers meaningful visibility, ownership of critical accounting processes, and opportunities to expand into broader areas of corporate accounting over time.
Key Responsibilities Lease Accounting & Administration (ASC 842)- Manage and maintain lease and landlord data within the EZ Lease system.
- Prepare monthly journal entries related to lease accounting in accordance with U.S. GAAP (ASC 842).
- Maintain lease accounting schedules and reconcile lease-related balance sheet accounts.
- Review executed lease agreements, amendments, renewals, terminations, and other lease documents to ensure accurate accounting treatment.
- Review and approve monthly rent obligations, coordinate payment processing, and investigate rent-related discrepancies. Monitor lease obligations including base rent, straight-line rent, percentage rent, CAM reconciliations, and other lease-related charges.
- Point of contact with landlords for special requests, sales reporting and annual reconciliations of CAM estimates.
- Assist with annual financial statement audits by preparing lease schedules and supporting documentation.
- Maintain the fixed asset subledger and ensure assets are capitalized, depreciated, and retired in accordance with company policy and GAAP. Record additions, transfers, disposals, impairments, and retirements of fixed assets.
- Calculate and record monthly depreciation expenses.
- Reconcile fixed asset accounts and investigate variances.
- Support capital expenditure (CAPEX) reporting and ensure projects are properly closed and capitalized.
- Maintain detailed supporting documentation for all fixed asset transactions.
- Assist with periodic physical inventories and asset verification activities.
- Oversee personal property tax compliance, including coordinating filings, payments, notices, and assessments with third-party tax providers.
- Prepare property tax-related accounting entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation
- Prepare and post standard journal entries. Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations related to assigned accounts.
- Partner closely with Accounts Payable, the accounting team, and store-level Operations teams to optimize payment workflows and resolve location-level discrepancies efficiently.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, automate manual workflows, strengthen internal controls, and enhance reporting efficiency across assigned areas.
- Support general ledger or brand-level accounting projects as team needs evolve.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required; CPA certification or active pursuit of CPA certification preferred.
- Experience: 3-5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within multi-unit retail, restaurant, real estate, or franchise environments.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of US GAAP, specifically ASC 842 (Leases) and fixed asset/depreciation rules.

Advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities required. Experience with ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics 365) and dedicated lease subledgers (EZ Lease) is a strong plus. - Key Attributes: High attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and an agile mindset comfortable adapting to evolving responsibilities in a fast-paced business environment.
