Harding, Shymanski & Co., P.S.C., a leading public accounting and consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Tax Practice Coordinator to join our Louisville office.

At HSC, the Tax Practice Coordinator is one of the roles that makes everything else work. You are not a traditional administrator, you act as the process owner, manage client touchpoints, and keep engagements and the department moving. You will work alongside a team of tax professionals serving privately held businesses, high-net-worth individuals, nonprofits, and healthcare organizations across Indiana and Kentucky.

This role sits at the intersection of client service and internal operations. On any given day, you might be coordinating a client's onboarding, supporting a billing cycle, or navigating the administrative needs of leadership. The work is varied, fast-moving during peak periods, and genuinely important to how the firm delivers for its clients. This is also a role with a real career path.

Tax Practice Coordinator is the entry point into the Tax Practice Lane a professional track that grows toward Tax Practice Senior Coordinator and Tax Practice Supervisor.

Job Duties
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for client intake for assigned team members or engagement types
  • Coordinate client communication, document collection, and secure delivery throughout the engagement lifecycle
  • Monitor engagement timelines and flag deliverables at risk of missing deadlines
  • Support signature tracking, document follow-ups, client reminders, and engagement letter coordination
  • Maintain a consistent, professional client experience from first contact through delivery
  • Manage calendars and coordinate meetings for assigned tax professionals
  • Support meeting follow-up, agenda preparation, and action-item tracking
  • Assist with billing coordination and reporting
  • Support department-wide strategic initiatives in coordination with assigned initiative leads
  • Serve as a first-line mentor for busy-season scanning interns and help coordinate intern projects and exposure opportunities
  • Provide backup coverage for other Tax Practice Coordinator responsibilities as needed
  • Prepare tax notice responses and simplified individual income tax returns (Form 1040), as assigned and based on qualifications
Requirements/Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in an administrative, coordination, or client-support role in a professional services environment preferred
  • Experience with client-facing responsibilities and deadline-driven workflows preferred

    Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously
  • Detail-oriented with consistent follow-through; demonstrates reliability in closing open items
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills; effective at all levels of the organization and with external clients
  • Adaptable and composed under pressure, particularly during high-volume periods (January–April, September–October)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required
  • Familiarity with CCH Axcess, Return Manager, or comparable tax workflow software preferred
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a public accounting, legal, or financial services firm
  • Familiarity with tax department workflows, return types, and engagement processes
  • Prior experience using billing or practice management software
