About the camp
Bear Creek Aquatic Camp (BCAC) is a traditional overnight summer camp owned and operated by the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana. BCAC is 183 acres tucked away in Girl Scout Bay on Kentucky Lake, playing host to a variety of aquatic sports like sailing, paddling, and swimming. Our program hosts girls in grades 4-12 with up to 70 campers. Camp Pennyroyal is located 15 miles south of Owensboro, Kentucky.
This 180-acre camp includes an 8-acre lake, three year‑round buildings, platform tents, screened cabins, and primitive camping areas.
The Overnight Camp Bus Monitor is accountable for the supervision and safety of camp registrants using Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana– provided transportation to and from Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana Overnight Camps and the communication of bus transportation, timing, and updates. This position is a part time role during the camp season.

The hourly rate for the bus monitor is $15.00 an hour.
Key Responsibilities- Supervises campers' behavior on the bus and at scheduled and unscheduled.
- Verifies trusted contacts for campers by checking IDs.
- Maintains an accurate head count of campers during all scheduled and unscheduled.
- Rides the bus between bus stop and council properties (Bear Creek Aquatic Camp and Camp Pennyroyal).
- Provides bus timing and location updates to camp directors.
- Manages camper check in and check out on opening/closing days at the bus stops with health checks, money collections, providing luggage tags, collecting and documenting medicine and bus.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Non-traditional and long work hours are expected.
- Daily exposure to various weather conditions, plants, and animals.
- 100% of work will be performed outside of a traditional office setting.
- Bulk of activities include traveling throughout the council.
- Work environment includes parking lots and buses.
Job Requirements Education
- Must be currently certified or willing to become First Aid/CPR Certified.
- Previous experience working with children is a plus.
- 18+ years of age by 06/09/2024.
- Meet state, federal, and ACA requirements for summer camp employment.
- Strong communication, written, and public speaking skills.
- Ability to function as a camp staff team member and work effectively with peers.
- Adaptable and flexible within a fast‑paced working environment.
- Must understand, establish and comply with boundaries of campers and fellow staff.
- Possess mental and physical endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
- Provide exemplary customer service.
- Identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to camper supervision.
- Ability to endure prolonged standing, bending, walking, sitting, sun exposure, heat, and other weather conditions.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new situations, surroundings, and circumstances quickly and effectively.
- Ability to travel for several hours at a time.
- Effectively address and resolve conflicts with individuals in a professional and respectful manner.
- Must completed and be certified in American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, & AED course prior to start of the first camp session.
- Complete a background check and provide other forms and details.
- Promote a culture of open communication and mutual respect.
- Respond to emergency situations and utilize First Aid, CPR, AED.
- Competency and comfortability with computers is a plus.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ensure diversity and pluralism are embraced and incorporated into the work of the council.
- Support the Girl Scout mission, vision, and values of Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana and live by the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
- Effectively manage financial and physical resources.
- Exhibit effective communication skills and provide exemplary customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Report incidents of abuse or potential abuse involving campers to the appropriate authorities.
- Complete Health History and physical exam prior to camp.
