Assistant Project Manager Job Description
The Assistant Project Manager supports the successful delivery of commercial and multi-family construction projects by coordinating subcontractors and vendors, overseeing site activities, and ensuring work quality and compliance with safety and environmental standards. This role serves as a key liaison between the field and the project team, helping to resolve construction conflicts, maintain accurate documentation, and drive projects toward timely and efficient completion.
Responsibilities- Schedule subcontractors and vendors to ensure work is completed on time and in the correct sequence.
- Perform quality control duties on all work being performed to verify that it meets project specifications and standards.
- Communicate with the project team regarding ASIs, RFIs, and material submittals to keep information current and aligned with project requirements.
- Ensure subcontractors fully execute and comply with their contracted scopes of work.
- Coordinate required inspections with local jurisdictions and ensure all work is ready for inspection.
- Identify subcontractor non-compliance with safety, health, and environmental quality standards and take appropriate action to address issues.
- Identify conflicts in construction progress and communicate them to the project team for timely resolution.
- Maintain a detailed daily log of activities on the jobsite, including progress, issues, and key decisions.
- Verify that subcontractors correct all deficiencies identified by the project team and document completion.
- Walk all units on the project daily to monitor activities, assess progress, and assist in future planning.
- Schedule and conduct weekly subcontractor meetings to coordinate work, address issues, and align schedules.
- Communicate issues of non-compliance to subcontractors regarding quality of work or scheduling and follow up to ensure corrective actions.
- Ensure the job site remains clean, organized, and safe at all times.
- Perform job progress and completion punch list identification and oversee completion of all punch list items.
- Use project management and construction software tools to track progress, manage documentation, and support effective communication.
- Approximately 5 years of experience in the construction industry, preferably with exposure to commercial or multi‑family housing projects.
- Demonstrated project management skills, including scheduling, coordination, and documentation.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, scopes of work, and change order management.
- Ability to perform thorough quality control inspections and identify deficiencies in workmanship or materials.
- Knowledge of safety, health, and environmental quality standards applicable to construction sites.
- Basic computer skills, including entering time and communicating effectively via email.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office for documentation, tracking, and communication.
- Ability to use or quickly learn construction management platforms such as Procore and Autodesk Build.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and the project team.
- Organizational skills to maintain logs, manage multiple tasks, and keep job sites clean and orderly.
- Ability to travel locally and regionally for site visits as required.
Skills & Qualifications
- High school education or equivalent.
- Experience working on commercial or multi‑family housing projects.
- Preferred completion of OSHA 10‑hour or OSHA 30‑hour safety courses.
- Experience with or interest in using Smartsheet for project tracking and coordination.
- Ability to adapt to a fast‑paced environment and manage changing priorities.
- Interest in ongoing professional development and education in construction.
- Motivation to grow into expanded responsibilities and internal career paths within project management or related roles.
