Role Summary

The Senior Superintendent will plan, manage and execute all aspects of complex healthcare construction projects. Responsibilities include managing teams, coordinating construction sequencing, achieving project goals, ensuring safety, quality, budget control, and timely profitable completion in alignment with JE Dunn’s strategy, vision, and values.

Key Role Responsibilities

SUPERINTENDENT FAMILY - CORE

  • Lead the company’s safety culture, investigate incidents, and provide retraining.
  • Manage subcontractors, self‑performed work, and overall job workflow.
  • Oversee personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and programs such as Safety, Quality, and EEO.
  • Develop work plans for self‑performed work and coordinate project site custody and control.
  • Lead daily stand‑up and weekly trade meetings; attend progress and OAC meetings.
  • Create, adjust, and implement project schedules with the Project Manager.
  • Track and monitor budgets and costs using the project management system.
  • Communicate key information to owners, design teams, authorities, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal departments.
  • Maintain document control, update drawings, logs, diaries, and inspection notebooks.
  • Approve unit cost information and complete daily, weekly, and tracking reports.
  • Evaluate self‑performed work progress and adjust as necessary.
  • Manage material, equipment, procurement, and approval processes.
  • Support quality compliance through specifications, standards, QA/QC, and external resources.
  • Assist in project closeouts, pre‑punch activities, and coordination with owners, architects, and governing authorities.
  • Participate in project pre‑planning, staffing, scheduling, cost negotiations, and reviews.
  • Recruit and develop top talent; promote diversity and inclusion and enforce non‑discrimination.

SENIOR SUPERINTENDENT

  • Manage complex or multiple projects from planning to completion.
  • Lead multiple superintendents and influence delivery outcomes.
  • Execute strategic initiatives supporting company strategy.
  • Provide training and education to support company and regional initiatives.
  • Engage in business and community activities to strengthen external relationships.
  • Drive the project pursuit process and collaborate with marketing on presentations.
  • Identify and manage project risks, propose solutions, and deliver on internal resource deliverables.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Accurate, timely work performance.
  • Advanced communication, presentation, and MS Office skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency in project management, accounting, construction technology, and scheduling software.
  • Advanced understanding of Lean processes, trades, scopes, self‑perform, labor productivity, budgeting, and profitability.
  • Ability to apply construction fundamentals, Lean principles, and project schedule impacts.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred.
Experience
  • 10+ years construction experience.
  • 8+ years field supervision experience.
  • Preferred experience in leading Lean principles on projects.
Working Environment
  • Valid unrestricted driver’s license required.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • May require travel/relocation and exposure to extreme conditions.
  • Must work non‑traditional hours to meet project needs.
  • Frequent activity:
    Standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling.
  • Occasional activity:
    Sitting, viewing computer screen.
