Construction Estimator

A leading civil construction organization is seeking an experienced Project Estimator to support a diverse portfolio of site development, utilities, wastewater/water treatment, cityscape, heavy highway, and DOT projects. This role is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of the bid process — from invitation through final proposal — while collaborating closely with owners, subcontractors, vendors, project managers, and internal teams.

What You’ll Do

• Manage the entire bid lifecycle from invitation to final proposal submission
• Analyze and interpret construction documents including plans, addenda, and specifications
• Identify scope of work and perform detailed quantity takeoffs for:
• Sitework
• Grade and drain
• Asphalt paving
• Conduct site visits and attend pre‑bid meetings to understand site conditions, restrictions, and project requirements
• Solicit, evaluate, and compare vendor and subcontractor proposals for accuracy and scope compliance
• Prepare complete, well‑organized estimates ready for management review
• Develop preliminary construction schedules based on project documentation
• Manage multiple bids simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining a highly organized workflow
• Identify value‑engineering opportunities and constructability considerations
• Assess project risks, exposures, and site conditions and incorporate them into the estimate
• Produce conceptual, schematic, and final detailed estimates depending on project stage
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Accounting, and internal teams throughout the estimating process

What You Bring

• 5+ years of estimating experience with a site contractor (private work) or heavy highway/DOT contractor
• Experience estimating projects ranging from $100K to $50M for a self-performing construction organization
• Strong understanding of civil construction assemblies and project phases
• Pump stations
• Drainage systems
• Bridges
• Highway and roadway work
• Ability to produce accurate estimates from conceptual through final contract documents
• Strong analytical, organizational, and time‑management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency with HCSS, Agtek, Oman, or similar estimating/takeoff software
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred
