Essential Responsibilities, Accountabilities & Results Pre-flight and Organization- Preflight electronic files received from clients and check them for thoroughness and completeness and report any issues to Project Managers.
- Ensures that all necessary fonts are available and art is present in-house.
- Verifies colors used and checks the resolution of any CT's.
* Utilizing knowledge and understanding of the pre-press and printing
- Applies required traps, holdbacks, overprints, knockouts, minimum type and line thickness.
- Utilizing knowledge and understanding of the pre-press and printing Offset, Dry Offset, Flexography, Roto Gravure.
- Creates traps for different types of printing per specifications to ensure customer jobs print properly.
- Adjust files to match customer specifications up to and including steps, repeats and applies distortion and cutbacks.
- Places proper marks, printer registration, color bars and tone scales on jobs.
- Develop Proof – preparing a preview of art for the customer illustrating how the final art product will appear.
- Accesses server volumes where jobs are located and resaves them to the proper volumes.
- Accesses typefaces for each particular job to ensure quality of work.
- Work OT when required.
- Complete any ad-hoc topics assigned by the Shift Leader.
- Knowledge in Esko Software is an advantage.
- Knowledge in Adobe suite.
- Ensures the accuracy of the final data deliverable up to and including PDF, TIFF, stepped LEN files, FTP upload and CD upload.
- Performs a Quality Control check list.
- Checks work to ensure basic mark positions are correct including centres, corner trims, screen scales, punch marks, job name and color designations.
- Flags errors or deviations from standard work procedures to the Production Manager / Supervisor.
- Ensures the accuracy of the final data deliverable up to and including PDF, TIFF, stepped LEN files, FTP upload and CD upload.
- Performs a Quality Control check list.
Minimum Requirements
- High school or college degree with a focus in graphics (or equivalent work experience).
- One to three years of hands on experience in print industry (flexo, offset, screen, dry offset).
- Proficient in various graphic design and layout software applications (Illustrator, InDesign, Esko Package, Photoshop) on a Mac and PC.
- Good understanding of digital file formats (pdf, tiff, eps) from different operating systems.
- Ability to output digital files to various output devices.
- Understanding of the offset printing process and how one color affects another.
- Proofreading skills required.
- Ability to read and understand instructions.
- Provide accurate, thorough, professional work regularly.
- Ability to coordinate work with others, seeks opinions, values working relationships.
- Communicates knowledge clearly, accurately and thoroughly.
- Listens attentively and responds thoughtfully to any issues.
- Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure and problem solve independently.
- Willingness to participate in process improvement efforts and various production meetings to foster a positive creative impact on the business.
- Must have the ability to continue to learn and use new graphics software on an ongoing basis.
