Position Overview
We are currently looking for an adjunct Nursing Clinical Instructor. A Clinical Instructor serves as a mentor to students and instructs them during their clinical rotations, which is essential to their education. The clinical instructor supervises all clinical activities, oversees all patient care activities, ensures optimal level of care in the clinical setting, and participates in various educational programs to ensure compliance with all lesson plans.
Clinical instructors report to an assigned Clinical Coordinator and assist students to progress through their academic programs to completion.
Candidates with BSN: $40/hr.
Candidates with MSN: $42/hr.

- Supervises care provided by a group of students while they complete their clinical rotation.
- Coordinates with clinicians at the clinical site to make student patient assignments.
- Instructs students on how to perform duties in the clinical site and answer their questions.
- Evaluates students’ clinical work.
- Ensures student behavior follows expectations outlined in the Program Handbook/Catalog and through instructor’s guidelines.
- Uses clinical and program forms.
- Confers with course’s primary/lead instructor on a weekly basis.
- Sends in Clinical Communication form weekly and student site attendance at the end of each clinical day.
- Reports all student absences to the primary/lead instructor within the first few hours of the clinical shift.
- Reports all incidents/accidents to the primary instructor and the appropriate Program Director/Dean within one hour of occurrence.
- Checks e-mail daily and responds promptly.
- Establishes contact with site Education Coordinator or assigned manager before beginning a clinical rotation for orientation, expectations, and schedule.
- Plans for observational experiences as appropriate to theory and according to facility policy.
- Completes and forwards signed student evaluation by the last week of clinical rotation.
- Adheres to all policies related to instruction, teaching, and being an employee of the University as specified by the Faculty/Staff Manual.
- Submits grade books in the correct format and by the required due date as specified in the University’s Gradebook and FERPA policies.
- Completes all required and mandated compliance training as specified by the Sullivan University System’s Human Resources department.
- Submits an updated curricula vitae/resume and self-assessment to the assigned Dean as part of the annual performance review process.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in field if only conducting clinical rotations. Master’s degree in field would be required to teach didactic coursework.
- Meets minimum education requirements dictated by the state governing board, accreditation and/or programmatic approvals of the institution and the department.
- Appropriately registered/licensed with a minimum of 2 years of experience within the functional area in the past five (5) years and provide evidence of clinical competence.
- An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
- Must possess excellent leadership, customer service, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently while meeting required deadlines.
- Ability to function efficiently in a stressful work environment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, to include evenings, weekends, and travel to multiple locations as dictated by the course schedule.
- Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time, as well as to move about the campus.
- Must be able to hear and speak well enough to communicate with students, faculty, and staff face to face, via the telephone, and through electronic medium (e.g., email, recordings, virtual meetings, etc.).
