Job Description

Bellarmine University Library is seeking a collaborative and service-oriented Health Professions, Science and Technology Librarian to serve as the primary contact for health professions and science departments, promoting the library’s resources and services.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
  • Serve as the library liaison to the health professions and sciences departments on campus, facilitating use of information resources and services by faculty, students, and staff in support of evidence-based practice and scholarly work.
  • Provide in-depth reference and research assistance to students, faculty, staff, and other patrons, both in person and virtually, teaching them to identify and use information resources and evaluate their quality.
  • Collaborate with faculty to deliver course-related and course-integrated instruction in person and online to enhance information literacy, citation management, and evidence-based practice.
  • Create and develop instructional materials such as research guides (Lib Guides) and video tutorials for the library website.
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of library resources.
  • Manage and support Scholar Works, the library’s institutional repository (BePress/Digital Commons).
  • Serve on appropriate committees, task forces, and working groups at the library, university, state, regional, and/or national levels.
  • Maintain awareness of developments in library science and emerging information trends in health sciences.
  • Assist as needed with circulation, technical processing, and other aspects of library operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Library Services.
Requirements
  • Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Strong public service orientation and skills, tact, and ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Strong written, oral, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Knowledge of health sciences and evidence-based practice literature, resources, and tools.
  • Knowledge of major health sciences databases such as Pub Med, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library, and ability to use them effectively.
  • Ability to use current technologies and discovery tools and to learn new tools for delivering library services.
  • Commitment to professional development and continuous learning.
  • Experience in an academic, special, or medical library (preferred).
