Position: Math Interventionist (Grades 6-12)

The Math Interventionist prayerfully assists Middle and High School students (Grades 6-12) in overcoming mathematical challenges, equipping them with foundational numeracy, algebraic reasoning, and problem-solving skills that contribute to their overall academic success and development as mature, able, and responsible Christians to the praise and glory of God. As a born-again Christian and college graduate certified or certifiable in secondary education or mathematics who feels called by God to the teaching profession, this individual specializes in evidence-based secondary mathematics instruction, diagnostic math assessment, concrete-representational-abstract (CRA) learning approaches, and targeted interventions for middle and high school students.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Spiritual Integration & Role Modeling: Reflect the purpose of the school to honor Christ in every class and activity. Motivate students to accept God's gift of salvation and grow in their faith through Christian role modeling and worldview integration (e.g., highlighting God's order, design, and consistency in mathematics).
  • Diagnostic Math Assessment: Administer secondary diagnostic math assessments to 6-12 grade students to identify foundational skill gaps in arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, and mathematical reasoning.
  • Targeted Intervention Design: Design and execute targeted, explicit, and multi-sensory math intervention plans for Upper School students needing Tier 2 and Tier 3 support.
  • Core Instruction: Instruct students in problem-solving strategies, mathematical conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and math-specific vocabulary to support success in core coursework.
  • Progress Monitoring: Monitor student progress regularly using secondary progress monitoring tools, adjusting intervention strategies based on performance data.

    Collaboration:

    Collaborate closely with 6-12 grade math teachers and general education faculty to align intervention strategies with classroom curricula and learning plans.
  • Consulting Support: Provide consulting and strategy support to Upper School math and science teachers on supporting struggling learners within the general classroom setting.
  • Parent Communication: Maintain clear, consistent communication with parents regarding assessment results, intervention goals, progress updates, and actionable strategies for home practice.
  • Learning Environment & Tools: Maintain proper discipline, a supportive learning environment, and an organized classroom equipped with age-appropriate visual, concrete, and instructional math tools.
  • Record Keeping & Confidentiality: Maintain accurate, confidential records of student intervention plans, assessment results, and attendance.
  • Biblical Conflict Resolution: Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with conflict with students, parents, staff, and administration.

Community & Professional Growth: Attend scheduled devotional, in-service, retreats, committees, faculty, and parent meetings. Represent PCS at Christian school organizations and support broader school programs by attending extracurricular activities when possible.

REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES
  • Functional expertise in secondary mathematics instruction, including foundational arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, and mathematical problem-solving methodologies.
  • Ability to interpret diagnostic math assessment data and isolate specific conceptual or procedural skill gaps in secondary students.
  • Ability to build rapport with and reduce math anxiety in reluctant or struggling teenage learners.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, instructional technology, educational software, and progress-monitoring tools.
